Hello one and all.

This is simply a message to invite anyone not previously aware to our annual Christmas party and AGM.

The club will be providing food and drinks for the barbeque christmas party.

The AGM meeting will occur after lunch followed by the presentation of trophies.

If you wish to bring nibblies or something to add to the table for lunch you are more than welcome to do so.

Please feel free to bring your caravan and camping equipment for our regular sunday shoot.

Also we wish the best of luck to our club members currently competing in the Branch 3D Titles at Singleton.

COACHING CLINIC

A coaching clinic will be held on 10th September at the club house.

They are very beneficial to attend, the members who went to the first and second, will tell you this.

It was a great experience, not to be missed.

There will be a video shown, information provided and sports psychology.

Please come along as there will be a lot to learn, as you can never learn to much.

A GREAT JOKE

A married couple went to the hospital to have their baby delivered.
Upon their arrival, the doctor said that the hospital was testing an amazing
new high-tech machine that would transfer a portion of the mother's labour pain to the baby's father.
He asked if they were interested. Both said they were very much in favour of it.

The doctor set the pain transfer to 10% for starters, explaining that even 10% was probably more pain than the father had ever experienced before. But as the labour progressed, the husband felt fine and asked the doctor to go ahead and kick it up a notch.

The doctor then adjusted the machine to 20% pain transfer.
The husband was still feeling fine. The doctor then checked the husband's
blood pressure and was amazed at how well he was doing.

At this point they decided to try for 50%. The husband continued to feel quite well. Since the pain transfer was obviously helping the wife considerably, the husband encouraged the doctor to transfer ALL the pain to him.

The wife delivered a healthy baby with virtually no pain and the husband had
experienced none.
She and her husband were ecstatic.

When they got home they found the postman dead on the porch.

Doctors Joke

The old country doctor still made house calls.

One afternoon he was called to a house where the wife was in terrible pain.

The doctor came out of the bedroom a minute after he'd gone in and
asked the husband, "Do you have a hammer?"

The puzzled man went to the garage and returned with a hammer.

The doctor thanked him and went back into the bedroom. A moment later,
he came out and asked, "Do you have a chisel?"

The man gave him a chisel.

In the next few minutes the doctor asked for and received a pair of
pliers, a screwdriver and a hacksaw.

After that last request the husband asked, "What are you doing to my wife?"

"Not a thing. I can't get my instrument bag open."

Coaching Course

Our club had two members attend the level one coaching course on the 2nd and 3rd April.
They were Mick Brett and Irene Hardy.
It was a very interesting and informative weekend.
There were eight archers from different clubs from E zone.
The course was held at the Avon Valley club, which was good, save us going all the way to Newcastle.
The instructors were, Peter and Lyn Fairhall.

Coaching Clinic

They are being held on 7th May and 10th September.

They are very beneficial to attend, the members who went to the first one will tell you.

Get Well Dave

Dave Tritton was admitted to the Manning Base hospital by ambulance on Friday night, (8th of this month), suffering with pains to the chest.
At this time he is resting well, with no pain.
They are keeping him there for forty eight hours to monitor his condition.
Get well Dave, see you back at archery very soon.
You are greatly missed.

UPDATE:

Dave is now out of hospital and is doing well.

He back shooting before you know it.

Hi to All

It’s been quite a relaxed start to the year which has been good for a change. We have been cruising along quite nicely with both indoor and outdoor shoots being well attended by members.

Indoor this year has been well attended by members, hopefully the good attendance continues. We will continue to shoot every Thursday until the numbers of shooters drops. Indoor gives you all a chance to fine tune your bow as well as your form. There are usually 3 coaches and now 2 coaches in training available to you at indoor which brings me to the next paragraph.

Congratulations to both Irene Hardy and Mick Brett who successfully attended the coaching course at the Avon Valley club last week. Two new coaches with new ideas and coaching techniques will not only ease the work done by Rob and co; but will be a huge benefit to our club. So if you do have a problem or you want to find an extra point or to have a yarn to the coaches it can’t hurt and you may be surprised in the results.

Sundays continue to be well attended with very respectable scores coming in, in all forms of archery we shoot. 3D and ABA continues to be most popular with IFAA not far behind.
Thank you to Karl, Wes and their many helpers for providing us with a combination of great ranges and great shots which I believe are as good if not better than any I have shot.
The introduction of the Axe and Knife organised by John Thoroughgood adds another positive for our members. It is now a requirement at all branch shoots so to be able to run our own will not only benefit members but those who attend branch shoots.
Branch shoots this year have been well attended by our members. Last year we averaged 5 members per branch shoot, so far this year it has more than doubled to 11.

Branch shoots are a good opportunity for member to shoot other rangers, compete against archers of their own grade from different clubs, camp out, sit back and relax with a beverage or two, sounds good doesn’t it, well it is.

To all our members making tracks to Wagga for the worlds and nationals good luck, relax and have a good time. Oh yer, shoot some good arrows as well.

CLUB ANNUAL POINTSCORE COMPETITION

The club pointscore competition will be conducted each year commencing on the 1st. of February and run to the 31st. of October.

Points will be awarded in the following;

A.B.A. Rounds: 3D Animal Rounds: INDOOR Walk Up: INDOOR 20 Yards:

I.F.A.A. Rounds: Knife Throwing: Axe Throwing.

Places awarded will be First, Second, Third, in Male and Female in all categories. At all times there will be separate Barebow and Sighted division trophies. The only exception will be for the overall Club Champion, which shall be decided by the total of all points scored be the individual member in all point scoring categories.

TROPHIES: The winners name will be added to the perpetual trophy,(or honour Board), and each place getter will receive a keepsake trophy.

ELIGIBILITY: All financial members are eligible to compete, unless otherwise determined by the Club Committee.

ROUNDS: There shall be at least one round of each category conducted each month for scoring purposes. The First Round in any category shot by a member shall be the scoring round for that month. Persons attending away shoots may use the first competition days score from that event to count for the club point score, provided that prior round has been shot by that member at the club during that month.

THE SCORING SYSTEM: ALL MEMBERS

The four (4) best scores in each Category over the nine (9) month period will be averaged and points shall be awarded using that average score against the individual member’s base score for that year.

The base score shall be determined by the current grade of the individual member, which shall be the maximum score for that grade, less fifty points. In the case of veteran class archers the base score shall be the average of the first three (3) score shot in each year in each category.

BASE SCORES: Male. Female, Juniors and Cubs.

A.B.A. BAREBOW,GRADE; Master= 650; A =600; B= 500;
C= 400; D= 300.

This years World Indoor Mail Matchs first round scores have to be in before the 6th February.

If you wish to enter, scores will be take from this Thursday night indoor shoot.

This gives us three scores to pick the highest score to be sent in.

Second round is to sent in by 6th March, third round to be sent in by 6th April.

All member are welcome to take part in this shoot.

The cost is $15.00 to enter plus your normal Thursday night fees.

Presidents Annual Report 2010

I Thank you all for your privilege of being able to present this report. The last year has seen our club grow and evolve into a club of interested members who now realise that they can have a voice in the running of their club.

There have been some committee meetings this year, but most have been held here at the club where all members can participate. This is not done by accident but by planning by current committee who all believe in a policy of no secerts or hidden agenda.The club at this time I believe is operating the best I have ever seen it. One only has to listen to hear that the members are all mixing and sharing the benifits that the club provides. This does not mean that I look down on past committees, but sincerely thank them for their hard work that has allowed us to reach our present club status.

While on members, they are shooting well both at our club and away, we should all thank the Club Coach, Rob and his crew for their efforts in helping all those who asked for assistance during the year. Rob, Mal and Dave are still looking after our gear.

The club amenities are always clean and tidy for use and our visitors, and we must all thank dan for his tireless work, while talking of Dan, I think we are all pleased that he has an apprentice in the "Don so a big thank you to you also, Dave. I would also like to thank the two men responsible for us having good targets, Max on the cardboard and Karl on the 3D. I believe that we are a privileged club to have quality of targets that we do.

The club scorer has been very active this year and assures me that there will be surprises in store for us all. Thanks Wendy for your efforts. The club Secretary, Gail, has kept me on my toes all year and made sure that all our paperwork was always up to date. Then there is the nervous one, and to her I owe great thanks, for the work Irene does for the club, with fundraising help from Cindy, meant that I had no concern what-so-ever with the club finances. Thank you both for your efforts and all member for our healthy financial position.

The normal activities of our club and the improvents that have been made to our facilities have been handled by the controlling hand of our Vice President, Mal. His energy and enthusiasm have affected most of us and much has been achieved under his guidence.

The members who are taking part in the indoor activities are finding not only some great rivalries but also a much improved social activity within the club. The indoor night sees socialising, coaching, gear and equipment maintance and repairs, personalised coaching and friendly competition. The numbers are steadly climbing and those who are attending are finding that their shooting is improving both indoor and on the range.

We have had visits from the cubs and the scouts for archery nights and I am not sure who gets the most fun. I have been told that at the start of each term the first activity asked for is archery that means that we must be doing something right. Once again Camp Memories was attended by our club, those few who have been doing so for five years or so. The kids get such a great deal of fun at these events, is was with a sadness that the committee has decided not to participate any more due to a lack of interested experienced club members turning up to assist on the day.

To the club committee and to all the club members, I thank you all most sincerely for your help and assistance during the past year. I thank you for the privilege of being president. I hope that next year will be even better than this one

AGM, Presentation and Christmas Party

Well, what a day it was, Saturday 4th December 2010.

The meeting was short and sweet this year, because all items of interest were discused throughtout the year, involving all members.

There was only two changes to the execitive committee, that was Wendy Gorton becoming the ABA Rep and Cindy Hardy becoming the Score Recorder. There other positions stay the same.

There were five Life Members who received a plaque with the year they became life members.

They were; Bob Wilson, Mark Everingham, Dan Scott, Dave Tritton and Max Hardy. There were others who have since past on. Congratulations.

All members looked as if they enjoyed the Christmas party again this year.

The kids had a great time with the pinata, hope they weren't sick the next day with all the lollies they got from the pinata.

The cubs recieved a present from Santa John.

The style of the trophies handed out this year were very nice, thanks Wendy.

Camp Memory

A big thank you to the members who volunteered their time on the, 20th November, to help out the kids with disabilities, to learn how to use a bow and shoot targets.

A great day was missed by members who could not attend.

Because the day was left up to six members, the club wont be attending Camp Memory in the forture as it is to much for the just a few people to look after six groups of kids from 10am to 5pm.

This will be very disappointing to the kids, but there is no other way to handle this situation.

CAMP MEMORY REMINDER

They are a wonderful bunch of kids of all ages.

It was a fabulous two day shoot at the Manning club again. Yes, it was a little hot, but no rain.

Yes, it was a great weekend, the weather was great and there were 105 shooters, young and old.

We had shooters from six different clubs, (E zone), and a few independants shooters.

A big thank you to Wendy and her great helpers in the canteen. Those who did not have the Roast beef on saturday night have no idea what they missed out on, really.

It was nice to see so many familiar face again.

What is so great about archers and shoots is that you can make great friends because they are a wonderful bunch of people. At each shoot you get to met up with those you have befriended and be able to catch up on what each other has been up, just fabulous.

A huge thank you to members who got in and helped Max last Sunday to put out the 3D targets and to thoughs who bought them back in this Sunday. Thank you again, Max really apprectiated it.

There was one Manning member chasing her tail on the weekend, trying to be at the birth of her grandchild and finish the shoot. she was able to in the end do both. Her daughter-in-law gave birth Saturday Morning,(8.25am), to a little boy.

Thank you to very one for their congratulations.

WORKING BEE REMINDER

Hi all members

We are having another working bee this Saturday, 6 November.

This is to have a tidy up before our 3D shoot, 13 - 14 November.

This will consist of: mowing, checking the orange and black ranges.

The tiding up of the canteen, camping area and any other tiding up that needs to be done.

It will be great to see as many members as posible there, as the saying goes, many hands make light work.

There were 23 members at the last working bee, it was the best attentance we have ever had, well done.

Lunch will be provide for workers only.

KEMPSEY SHOOT

Well, what a weekend weather wise. If you were at the Kempsey shoot last weekend you will know what this means.
Friday was very mean, the rain bucketed down, on and off all day and half the night.
About 12.30am the sky filled with stars, unbelievable.
Thats not all, the wind blow like you wouldn't beleive. It was like being in the middle of a gale, the bending trees almost touched the ground.

Saturday woke with the sun shining and a little windy, Sunday was a beautiful warm day.

The Kempsey archers made all visiting archers feel very welcome.

They have great rangers, especially for the not so fit archers.

The Manning Club members had a great weekend and did well.

My Hunting Trip

I had contracted the manager of the property, who had informed me that there were goats and pigs on his place and I was most welcome to go out and get rid of them, so off to Dubbo. It was a 3hour drive from Dubbo, so off to bed early.
I drove in through the gates of the property and headed up the road to the station house, as I drove along the road I saw a ute coming toward me, I pulled up to the side and the manager stopped and introductions were made, he was headed into town, he then said, that if I had my gear with me to proceed pass the station house go over the dry creek bed through the double gates turn left and follow the road till I come to the tree line through the trees. I should see a clearing with a large dam in the middle, a mob of goats have been seen drinking at the dam at this time of day, with luck I might get a shot at one.
Into my camo gear and off I went, I found the place no trouble, I left the car in the trees and with the wind in my favour stalked onto the dam. Creeping over the dam wall no, goats but plenty sign of pigs wallow, as I was walking round the dam I heard the sound of bleating, I crept up the wall of the dam and saw a mob of goats coming toward the dam along a well used trail, quickly I looked around for a possible ambush site. The dam wall had a gap; I got in between it and found the perfect spot.
The goats were fairly close now, leading the bunch were nannies and young kids. Looking through the binos I saw a very large billy bring up the rear, his horns were massive; I reckoned they would go close to 50inchs. Boy, I started to shake, the goats walked pass my hideout and I thought I was discovered. When a kid walked over to the lignum, but he was to thirsty to worry about the strange object in the bush, the billy was almost past me, I drew the bow held as steady as I could and released the arrow a perfect quartering away shot the goat, it just walked sideways a couple of steps and laid down, boy was I shaking now a few deep breathes, I was about to go and claim my prize. Out of the corner of my eye I saw movement back along the trail, binos up and i saw a big black and white boar coming along the track, when he got closer I could see a lot of white showing on his mouth, great hooks. Again I got ready, the pig stopped just before he got to me and lifted his head and sniffed the air, then he saw the goat, he walked over to it and started to lick the blood. Was I a mess, shaking all over trying to get control, I aimed the arrow and released another perfect shot, two record class animals two shots in 5 minutes. I was really shaking and then I heard a voice, my wife shaking me saying, if you want to go to that property you had better get up and have some breakfast.

DAHN DAHN DARN

What a trip, what a shoot. The 45 people from the Australian team left from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. We all met in Singapore where we finished the trip together. It looked great in Changie Airport with all these green and gold uniforms floating
around as we waited for the second leg of the journey. (Word of advice if you are travelling overseas by plane and you are booked on a 747 Jumbo - refuse to go) compared to the later model planes as the 380 Air Bus that are out there, the 747 Jumbo is like flying in a sardine can. Enough of that crap.

The Australian team were one of the first teams to arrive in Dahn and after our Queensland contingent scouted the town, a pub was found that sort of became base for the Aussies (well the Queenslanders thought so). These guys thought that this would be the place to party at the end of the shoot. (We found out later that the closing party of this event was not going to be anywhere but done at the WIFAC centre). But that is another story.

So anyway after we were settled in to our accommodation and found where we were going to be shooting and where the practice ranges were (and where the watering holes were) we spent the next few days practicing to get acclimatised to our new environment.

The Opening ceremony was a blast. All the teams assembled at one end of the town and marched through the streets of the town to the WIFAC Centre. The streets were packed with locals and visitors alike waving flags, applauding and when the Aussie team reached the part of the march where the announcer was introducing the teams they started playing “I Come From The Land Down Under “It was just brilliant. Once the shoot was declared open and a few beers were had we were ready to shoot. In amongst the whole afternoon were regular cries of AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE OH, OH, OH as the team were getting into the swing of things.

I felt a little bit sorry for the Juniors and Cubs as they were going to have to shoot the same range for five days, I think it had something to do with the fact that because of the access spectators had to the courses, it was a bit dangerous, whereas the course that was set up for the kids had restricted access (I’m not 100% sure but I think that was why), but for us adults we were not going to see the same range again.

Day one of the shoot field round, we being the Adult Male Bowhunter Compound and twelve other divisions shot the Blue Range (Hochstein) which was approximately twelve kilometres long and WOW what a setup. Talk about gruelling. Personally I have not shot any course here in Australia that would go close to these courses in Dahn. The up and down shots we had were something you really had to see to believe. The photo’s I took really don’t do the angles justice. Day one finished and scores were in, the old legs were feeling the results of the steep first day. But a few beers numbed the pain a little.

Day two hunter round, the Green Range (Mighty Castle) the scenery alone from the castle was unbelievable and even though we had only four targets to shoot there (these being 15/14 walk up) where we didn’t actually move but they had staggered two butts. One set of bugs eyes, one 45yard from one of the highest parts of the ruin back down to a level below and spectators everywhere was just mind blowing. The easiest shot there would have had to have been the 15/14 walk up, one of the few flat shots there was the whole five days. About 3 or 4 targets out of the castle was a 65yard up hill and it was at such an angle that you had to cut at least 10 yards off it or your arrow would smash into the rock wall behind the butt. Day two down and the legs and feet were getting ready to leave me and come home; I was starting to think, man am I ever going to make it for another 3 days. Again back at the hostel a few more beers dinner and a few more beers and it was time for bed.

Day three, the Yellow Range (Silent Valley) the animal round and we had moved to the first of the three ranges that were only about 500 metres from the hostel ( in other words it was within walking distance) something I really needed after the first two days of shooting. These coloured pictures were very different to our normal animal pictures in ABA and for anyone who went to Orange this year got to see some of these. A lot of credit needs to go the range captain and organisers as the range we were on, they tried to put each target up where the back drop matched the picture, a couple of examples were there was a picture of a black bear climbing a tree so they attached the butt with the picture to a tree so it actually looked like the bear was climbing the tree. If the picture had a lot of rocks in the background they set the butt up in the rocks and so on. This just added to the overall affect of the whole week. The end of day three and it was back to the hostel or done to the WIFAC centre for more beers then dinner and more beers and bed. Before I go onto day four the last thing unless I imagined it the silent valley was actually silent, I remember seeing birds flying around but they weren’t making any noise (a bit scary aye!)

Day four, the White Range (Observation Rock) and it was back to a field round and at this stage the old legs were still sore but it was getting better and they weren’t complaining too much. I knew I had no hope of catching the leaders in our division by now, but then again I didn’t think I really had any chance anyway. This was the third day of shooting with the same people and we were getting on really well, 3 Germans and 3 Aussies, there was no shortage of shitbeing put on anyone who deserved that just needed to be done to amuse ourselves. The Germans have got a weird sense of humour like us. Even though bright red tape was put in place to stop walkers from going on certain tracks that the ranges were set up on we had the incident where (there were 6 in our group) we had all just finished shooting a 45 yard sightly uphill shot and it would not have been 15 seconds after the last arrow was shot at the target when a group of hikers came over the crest of the hill directly behind our target and were heading along the track which we were on. I didn’t understand what one of the German archers in our group said to them, but by the looks on these people’s faces it wasn’t “how are you are you enjoying yourselves”. That was a bit scary really. I asked Hubert after they left what was said and most of it I am not allowed to write in this due to the fact that kids might be reading, but basically they saw the tape and thought it would be OK to just slip under it and keep walking. I think they were related to Stg. Shultz (Hogan’s Heroes) the idiots. Day four finished and it was back the hostel and or pub for a few more beers. By now I think you get the idea that the beer over there was pretty good. The food wasn’t bad either.

Day five and the second round of the Hunter, Red Range (Schiller’s Arch). The most memorable shot on this range I think was on target one 70 yard walk up up hill and I mean up hill. During the course of the day our group was having a rest and lunch near this target and I was able to watch some of the Long bows in action and honestly when they shot this it looked like their arrow went up as far as it could and then looked like it just fell into the target. Great entertainment I thought. Could have watched it for hours, um not really. As we went around on this day everyone kept saying only 26 left, only 14 left, only 5 left and may I say the time there went so quick that I was starting to feel a bit sad that in a couple of hours or less this shoot was over. One thing that seems to have come out of this and that was after five days of walking and shooting these courses my body and legs were telling me that we should have had 5 days warm up because I was feeling that I was now ready to start shooting (BUGGER) ITS ALL OVER. We went to a banquet that night and of course had a few beers and I think a few more. The WIFAC centre was really coming to life that night as all the archers were there as well as tourists enjoying themselves.

The only thing left now was the Medal and Closing Ceremony. Australia won it’s fare share of medals in a lot of divisions, for E Branch Ella Hartcher did us proud bynot only winning GOLD but breaking 2 world records in the process in her division. Congratulation Ella. Liam Mowbray also needs to be congratulated on his SILVER Medal in his division of 43 shooters, Liam that was awesome. Once again I have been able to experience the camaraderie, family type attitude and atmosphere of people in this sport of archery, even at this level. This type of behaviour re-enforces why I like archery so much. It was great watching people from different countries hugging new friends that they had made as well as concreting old friendships as well swapping of shirts and things to remember each other by “BRILLIANT”.

A Lovely Couple

May and Les are a lovely couple from the Erina Archery Club, who were coming on holidays to Old Bar and emailed to ask when we shot and could they come for a shoot. Of causes, the answer was yes.

Les has only shot FITA, he was shown how to shoot ABA and liked it very much.

Les is not a well man as he has had more than one stroke, one not so long ago and has to use a walking stick to go around the range and he is also quite deaf.

That's determination for you.

May does not shoot and she also in not a well person.

Hope we see them again.

FATHERSDAY FUN SHOOT

There was a good roll-up for the fathersday fun shoot on Sunday. Rabbits were set up on all the butts and shot from the hunter peg, shooting and scoring two arrows.

There was the long shot, playing card shot and the 3D pig shot. The closes to the bulls eye won.

Some of use were way off, we blamed the wind.

Hi all
My wife and I attended your shoot at the weekend, the first shoot my wife had ever been to and the first for me in 26 years. I just wanted to say thank you we had a great time.

Due to dr appointments we decided to stay over on the Sunday night and leave mid morning Monday.

One of your members, (sorry I can't remembers his name but he is your roustabouts apprentice) also stayed Sunday night.

Well he couldn't do enough for us, he brought us a barrow load of wood, kept the fire burning under the hot water and had a billy going early Monday morning. He treated us like royalty, not 2 pains in the arse pensioners.

It was so nice and really put the icing on the cake of a beautiful weekend.

Thank you to all in your club, but a huge and heart felt thanks to the young gentleman for Sunday night.

Manning ABA Shoot

It was so great to so many archers,(who came from far and wide), to attend the Manning shoot last weekend. There was 105 shooters.
The weather could not have been more perfect, if we had gotten down on our knees and prayed for such great weather.

Even though the days were beautiful it was cool at night, so the campers had fires blazing away.

It was the first time the new coloured targets have been shot at our club. There were a few comments made about the new targets, some fore and some against.

Everyone must have had a good weekend, because you could laughter and talking all around the ranges.

Over the weekend the were two or three ROBIN HOODS. Congratulations.

There was a comment made from a visiting archer, that our amenities are the best he has seen and used. We all know they are the cleaners amenities you will find, thanks to Dan.

Big thank you to all the canteen workers. you all did a great job.

All those who didn't taste the canteen meals on Saturday night don't know what you missed out on. A big thank you to those who did.

Members who know Sally-Anne must take their hats off to her, for her determination and strength to walk around the range on Sundays let-a-lone two full days. Go Sally-Anne.

There must be a mention about a certain member who, for the full weekend had under wear problems. They just did not wont to stay up. It was very entertaining for the two gorgeous ladies that were in his group. He said, he was the rose between the two thorns. In your dreams Rob, Ha Ha.

What a roll up today for the working bee. There were 23 members that came along for the working bee and what a great job they did.
The canteen shone when Wendy and her helpers were finished, you almost needed your sunnies on.
There definely wont be a shortage of firewood for the shoot, thanks to David, Gail and their little helpers, (Ryces, Jake and harley).
James worked like a Trojan horse today, with his head down and his bum up.
Bob even put Cindy to work, painting a new knife and axe throwing block.
Dan, Max and clifton fiddled with the ranges and targets.
Thanks to thoughs who established the new area for the knife and axe throwing. It looks really great.
Almost forgot, thanks to Rob for putting life back into some of the lounge chairs. Now your bum wont hit the ground.
The camping area has been enlarged and looks fantastic.
A huge thank you also to: Jeff, Denis, Matt, Mark, Bob, John, Ray, Mal, Wes, Karl and Irene.
Also, when driving to the range now, you will think you are driving on the highway.

August Shoot

The Manning club has it’s first shoot for 2010.
It’s an ABA shoot, which will be held on the 14th and 15th of August.

New members are able to enter, as long as they are members of ABA.

The new coloured targets will be out on the ranges, this will be the first time some of the members will have seen them.
It will also be the first time most of us have shoot them.
This will be a new experience for us, one we’ll really enjoy.

As you know our canteen will be serving the most delicious meals you’ve ever tasted.

Helpers may be needed to give a hand in the canteen. Anyone with some time to spare, please see Mal and Wendy.

Please try to come to the WORKING BEES before the shoot, to tidy up a little so we all can be proud of our club.

Please come along and take part in this shoot as you will really have a lot of fun.
You may even end up in a group of winners like the group below from last year.

Orange IFAA Nationals

The time was cut rather fine as we set out in the morning from the central coast and heading for orange. We spent the last hour searching for The Orange Archery Club, then registering with a bow check and lastly pitching our tent and setting up camp.

After day one on the range, I was half tempted to throw in the towel after stepping out of a dimly lit shower only to step on my glasses breaking off both arms and scratching the lenses. At this point I managed to acquire some electrical sticky tape and stuck the arms back on and continued on over the next three days.

The ranges were hilly in parts where I used up quite a bit of endurance which paid off in the end to score a gold medal.

I give thanks to god for allowing me to still enjoy life after surviving prostate cancer. Two years ago after being diagnosed with advanced reading of 30, my PSA reading is now down to 0.59.

My thanks also go to my wife Sally-Anne, who endured 5 nights in a tent with temperatures going down to –4 degrees at night and 10 during the day.

Coaching Clinic

Twelve members attended the coaching clinic on the 29 May Saturday.
Maybe the rain frightened other members away believing it would be wet and cold.
Well they missed a good time, there was a fire raging and keep us warm and toasty.
First up, we shoot while being videoed, so we could visualise our imagery technique.
A video was shown on how to check nocking points , peep sights, tuning your bow and how to calibrate tonxonic sights elevation.
One of the videos showed how the bow, sights and string reacts when the arrow is released. It was a real eye opener on how the arrows bent and twist after it leaves the bow.
The biggest surprise was how the strings, bow and even the sights moved so violently after the arrows released.
Rob had a discussion on, how important it is to warm up with the appropriate exercises before shooting.
We all had such a great time, that no one left the club until 6pm, except for the members who camped over.

Mothers day Fun Shoot

A great time was had by all at the Mothers day Fun Shoot.

Morning shoot was on the white range with coloured targets, that was put on every second target.
Members were given a cube, painted with shoot peg colours and had to roll it along the ground, which ever colour came up, that’s the coloured peg the shot from.
Members said, it was different and fun.
After lunch was the best time of all.

Mal, Wendy and young Jake blow balloons up and filled them with lollies .
These were hooked on rope which was hung across the practise range.
Everyone ha to shot until they hit a balloon and collected their lollies.
Members were getting so excited when they , (almost hit a balloon). When they did hit the balloon, Taree would have heard them. This event did take some time. It was a fantastic time.
Next, a apple was shot off a hairless Marlene Monroe, she was put in front of a indoor target.
Clifton was first to hit the apple. Marlene was in a bad way when the shooting was finished.
Then there was two photo copies of a five dollar note pinned onto an indoor target, (one for seniors and cubs).
The arrow, that got the closed to Her Majesty head, won $5.00.
Cub winner was, Harley Hardy.
Senior winner was Wes Bull.

Last but not lest, was the long shot. The shot was 60 to 70 metres away and we had to shoot with recurves and wooden arrows. That was a feat on its own.
Well, there was arrows going all over the place. There was even tree shots, some of use could not even see that far little loan hit the target.
With the arrows going wild, not sure who won.

A coaching clinic will be held at the club on, Saturday 29 May. All members are welcome to come along. It will start at 9am and will go all day or as long as you can stay.If you wish you can be videoed before you are coached and after, so as to see improvemt in your shooting from the coaching session.There will be information and sport psychology provided.

Steaks will be on sale for $2.00 each. Please provide your own salad and bread.
Also, Friday night, 28 May indoor is on. Anyone, who would like to have a camp over are very weclome to make a weekend of it.

My Weekend at Kempsey
or(Those EFFEN BEARS)

It was to a clear and early start heading off from Taree, only to be greeted 45 minutes later to a line of grey rainy looking clouds that seemed to be right over the top of the area where Macleay Valleys range sits, it was. So rain was to be the order of the day, OK for some, not so for others. On arriving, Karl and I were surprised to see that the place was virtually full of caravans, tents and cars. A really good turnout with over eighty competitors set to tackle the 3D layout on two ranges. Cunningly set out by the Range Captain, (Shane Fuit), who takes wicked delight in having difficult stances, awkward obstructions, deceptive distances and all manner of things that go into making it a great and challenging shoot. Well done Shane.
With the sighted shooters on the Goanna range and the unsighted shooters on the Anthill range, following the official welcome speech by Peter Fairhall and with it still raining, groups assembled and made their way out into the Collombatti countryside.
Little more than an hour later the rain let-up and stayed that way for the rest of the weekend.
On the course the resounding thwump of rubber animals being whacked by arrows , could be heard in all directions as well as cheers, chuckles and the occasional odd sounds that is usually associated with a stray arrow or two into butts.
With a lot of familiar faces and quite a few new ones as well, it would be interesting to see how everyone went.
It’s great to see so many people coming a long way to these branch shoots with a really big contingent coming from Gunnedah, Singleton, Central Coast. Taree was also well represented with 10 participating.
Some targets of note would have to be a long downhill elk, ably surrounded by scarred trees and those EFFEN BEARS must be something about man-eating predators, I can’t hit them.
In my group the undoubted shot of the day was to Shirley, from 3DAAA, who put her first arrow dead centre in the pro-ring on the 45 odd metre, very small zone, all white caribou or reindeer or what ever it was, big animal, big antlers, very small target zone.
It was beautiful to watch though the Bino’s, the arrow in flight all the way to the centre and never even looked like missing. A great shot and had her smiling a big wide smile for the rest of the round.
The targets shot were:Turkey, Crocogator, Coyote, Wolf, 3 different Bears, Pigs, Goats, Warthog, Javelina, Fox, Elk, Caribou, Deer, Mountain Lion and Cat.
After lunch it was swap ranges and out again we went in much more pleasant conditions for the one arrow round, Quite amazing the difference in terrain the two ranges offer and how quickly it changes. Some of the trickier shots were the climbing bear, not much leeway to be low, the quartering on warthogs that was nearly running straight at ya and the alligator, tucked away on the creek bed, and the infamous gully shot that is so hard to guess distance.
No lost arrows and had a great time trying to go shot to shot with Gary Nicholls, in my group, unfortunately for Gary, he was learning a brand new bow and had a couple get away on him..With four freestyle shooters in your group, things can get a bit tight in the shorter targets and a fair bit of arrow slapping was to be expected.
With the round over, it was down to the serious business of relaxing and telling tall tales of the shot that could have been and having a well earned coldie.
Thank you Karl, as I forgot to go to the bottlo, but I did remember to bring something that topped off the night that was loosely described as metho with bourbon flavouring.
Kempsey’s dinners, with three to choose from, were just what the doctor ordered for the evening and well done to all the folks in the canteen, and followed by a very pleasant full moonlit night, sitting around the mozzie candle till all hours, saw out the end of day one.
On rising Sunday morning to the chipper faces of some who had retired early and some slightly blearier eyes, clear but humid weather seemed to be the outlook. Must have coffee was the chant and yes the canteen crew were already at it.
Checking the standing sheet was a bit confusing as apparently the computer was having a bit of a moment. I was leading flight 2, funny I thought I was in Flight 1. Lots of pen scrawls and corrections as some people didn’t know what class they were shooting in. Anyway, Rob, Lyn, Lou and Cathie were able to wring it’s neck and get it all sorted out in the end. I’m sure I saw Rob behind the caravan pulling his hair out and mumbling incoherently.
Two arrow round and same groups as yesterday and an earlier muster saw everyone out on the range and slapping arrows again, eight arrows in in the A, gets really tight!
When we got to the EFFEN BEARS, shortly after the elk quartering on and hiding behind the tree, both bears were reversed and looking like they were taking a pee on the butt behind them. Bear one missed, bear two missed, second arrow got him, finally.
Everyone in my group seemed to be having a better round, particularly young Ben who shot 70 points better than the day before, more relaxed perhaps, as I think he said he hadn’t shot 3D before.
Gary was a couple of arrows shorter in his quiver and I was just grateful to not have to make more arrows.
With the two arrow round over, scores in and most packing up done, the general tough but fun as well and with leech bites aside all escaped unscathed.
My personal highlight was seeing my daughter and granddaughter waiting to greet me coming off the range.

One last point of note goes to young Jacob Fuit who’s first days scores of 398 and 398 was a great effort. God help us all when he makes seniors.

Presidents Annual Report

The past year has been one of great changes for me personally,
I am most grateful for the help and friendship of the members of our club.
I believe we have achieved a great deal during the past year, not all of it so easily noticed by those attending club meetings and events. There have been some committee meetings during the past year, but the absolute need for such meetings has been greatly reduced by larger involvement of committee members and our general membership in deciding what was needed at our club. There needs have mostly been met due to the hard work of mainly a central core of membership.
The field activities of the club have been handled extremely well by Vice President Mal, and I feel that we owe him a great deal of thanks for his
enthusiasm and work effort. It would be remiss of me if I do not mention the assistance given to Mal by both Dan and Max. I believe that we are all most fortunate to have these three men as members of our club for without them we would not enjoy all the facilities that we do.
The I.F.A.A. Course has proven to be popular and will prove to be of great benefit to all those who wish to improve their shooting skills wether for target or hunting activities.
We can as members enjoy all the games played by the A.B.A., and the club has proved the benefit of being able to practise all these forms of archery by the success of our members at events attended around the country. The manning club has always had a great reputation for results at Association events, and I for one am pleased to see that the tradition continues to this day.
A very special thanks must go to Karl Peck for his tireless efforts in providing the members with an ever improving 3D game. Karl’s efforts
over the years have been phenomenal and one only has to see the faces of those who come off the 3D ranges to know that his efforts are greatly appreciated by all.
The club ranges continue to evolve; the small but constant changes stop us all from becoming to complacent with things and help to keep us on our toes. The ranges that the club now has are enough to suit the needs of our members. And can accommodate a Branch shoot with little trouble. If the club was looking to host an I.F.A.A. Shoot, we would need to , at a minimum, put in another 14 targets.
Wes has been our range captain and has kept the ranges in good condition. While the targets have been Wes’s responsibility, it is not necessary for him to do all the work.
It is the Responsibility of every club member to assist Wes with this work, unfortunately this past year the range work has fallen mainly on the shoulders of some of our more chronologically advanced members. I would ask ALL members take a much more physical approach to the range work in the next twelve months.
I have often been asked if our club would ever host another national championship event. I have always said, “No”, this is not because our club is not capable of putting on such an event, because we are, but because it always rain here at Easter.
The club coach has been very active, and Rob and his assistants continue to provide help and good advice to all who ask. We are continually getting people coming to try our sport, and while our numbers do not show a great increase, the coaches have given many opportunities to at least experience the sport that we all do and enjoy. The club many years ago put into place a rule that only qualified persons may coach on the club grounds. This was done, not to say that the coaches were the end all of knowledge about archery, but to prevent members from being sued for giving out incorrect information.
I would also like to take this time to thank Dave and Rob for their assistance to members with their equipment problems.
Not all work done by committee is visible to all, people like Irene, Gail and Wendy do many hours of work that few get to see. Without the tireless efforts of these ladies we would not be functioning as a club. We also, all appreciate the clean amenities when we come out here, and we appreciate the fact that we always have targets ready and butts to but them on, this is not done by LITTE Elves, but by a couple of OGRES, they have been mentioned before, but what would we do without them.
Thanks must also go to the rest of the committee for their efforts, Mark, Stuart, Lyn and Garry who fill important rolls within our club. I suppose that I have the easiest job of all in that I, and the club, have a committee that has pulled and worked together this last year.
We as a club are now under more observation from State Forest then in previous times, and I feel that we as one of the largest clubs they have as tenants are their proving ground. I must admit that all the discussions have been friendly and informative. We do now however have to apply in writing and in advance for anything we wish to do.
To this end a plan of management is now being prepared in detail for State Forests of what the club wants to achieve within the next three years in relation to additional ranges or road works and to clearing out the stacks of rubbish in close proximity to the club buildings.
The work programme for the next twelve months is to be limited to what we as a club need for our members usage. This is to allow all of us to do what we came into the sport for, and that is to shoot our bows and arrows and to improve our own skills. I believe that we have most things we currently need to operate as an archery club, and anything additional would be to allow us to host additional levels of events.
I thank all those who have worked so hard during the past year. And also thank my wife and family for allowing me to continue doing what I love and enjoy. To the committee, my sincere thanks for all your efforts.

Christmas Shoot

A Big Thank You from all the Club Members to those who volunteered their time in the canteen over the Christmas Shoot weekend.. Meals were delicious, especially the hamburgers, (good idea Wendy), and chocolate Bavarian and ice cream, yummy. A job well done.
The Manning club would like to give Janette and Peter Griffith a huge thank you for their fantastic help in the canteen, it was greatly appreciated.
Also a Big Thanks to Dan for the immaculate showers and toilets, and making sure everyone had a hot shower.
Weather wise the weekend was fantastic. The shoot was a great success and everyone looked like they were having fun and enjoying themselves.
There were seventy shooters over the weekend, they came from, Kempsey, Dubbo, Singleton, Tuggerah Lakes, Avon Valley, Hunter bowman and Boolaroo.
Someone from the Manning shot their P.B., (not mentioning any names) and was over the moon. That someone would like to thank Rob for playing with their body and Bob for playing with their brain.
Thank you also to members who donated prizes for the shoot raffle, greatly appreciated. There were plenty of great prizes.

The club will be suppling the meat, salad and drinks.

It would appreciated if members can bring nibbles, e.g. nuts, chips, dip, crackers or a dessert.

It was a bit of bad luck for the Macleay shoot with the heavy downfalls of rain.
It would have been very dissapointing to all shooters that it had to be cancelled.

Better luck next time.

Just a REMINDER about CAMP MEMORY this Saturday 21st from 9am to 4pm.

It is a very rewarding experience working with the kids.

You will get as much enjoyment out of it as the kids do.

All you do, is show the kids how to shoot.

Bring back lots of medals.

Maybe you should all get down on your knees and say the right words and hopefuly, the weather will stay fine.

WORKING BEE

Thank you to members that were able to attend the WORKING BEE on Saturday.

A fair amount of work was acheived. Dan, Bob, Denis and James made 11 butts, a record of three bags in one day.

Max and Dean did a great job on one of two bow case benches.

Mal worked endlessly on the guttering. Wes worked on the rangers.

Gail, Wendy and Irene but a shine back in the canteen after the red dust covered everything.

Last but not lest, Kimmy for writing up the new menu.

If anyone was missed, sorry.

Job well done by all.

CHRISTMAS SHOOT

The Manning will be holding the Christmas shoot this year.
It will be the weekend of 12 - 13 December.
